Welcome to the Pilbara, Western Australia - a region that offers a range of seasonal events and activities for all ages and interests. From cultural festivals to sporting events, the Pilbara has something for everyone. In this article, we're going to explore some of the exciting things to do and see in the Pilbara throughout the year.

Summer

Summer is a great time to explore this region, with plenty of sunshine and clear skies. If you're a water lover, then Karratha's popular Aqua centre is perfect for kids and adults alike. The center has multiple slides, including a water slide and three pools, long enough to swim in. There is also a spot for picnic with shade and barbeque, where you can relax while watching the kids splash around. You can find the centre on Dampier Highway in Karratha.

Don't miss out on the Cossack Art Award. It is held annually during August and September at the historical town of Cossack. The art competition showcases artwork from some of the best emerging and established artists from all over Australia. The event runs for 5 days and is accompanied by various food stalls of the Pilbara region, live music, and many other activities.

Another great event is the Port Hedland Cup, which happens in August. This race is held at the Hedland Turf Club, where you can enjoy a range of activities like horse racing, paying for membership and joining events.

Autumn

Autumn is the perfect season for a relaxing get-away as the warm weather cools down. Take a tour of the Karijini National Park, and experience its otherworldly beauty at this time of year. You can have a lot of fun, cooling off in some of the park's tranquil, swimming holes.

Make sure to attend the Hedland Art Awards in April, a great event to admire the artistic talent of the region. The event holds various workshops alongside music and other cultural performances by local artists.

The Newman Rodeo happens in the town of Newman during the months of May and June. It is an annual event that celebrates the cattle and horse riders of the Pilbara region. Although the main activity is bull riding, there are also food stalls, drinks, and live music.

Winter

Although winter could be harsh and freezing, the Karratha and Port Hedland towns both have recreational centres that offer indoor swimming pools, basketball courts, gym equipment, and more to keep you pleasantly engaged during the chilly months.

Experience the sunset at Hearson's Cove, which is approximately 40 kilometers from Karratha heading to Cape Lambert. The scenic beauty is breathtaking as you watch the sun go down over the backdrop of the Indian Ocean.

Spring

At the end of October, the Karratha annual show is held for a weekend in recognition of the town's rich agricultural past. The show holds a variety of things to see and do, from animal displays, horse riding competitions, and even fireworks displays.

There is the Marble Bar Cup, held in September every year in the beautiful town of Marble Bar. The event has been hosted for more than 120 years during which, it includes horse riding activities, music performances, and delicious food.
